Put your ARIB caption data to work in streaming

When ARIB STD-B24 caption data is embedded in your video, captions can be displayed in live streams delivered by STREAKS. With PLAY's proprietary technology, ARIB STD-B24 caption data — traditionally unused in streaming — is rendered as real-time captions, making your live streams accessible and enjoyable to a wider audience.

PLAY's proprietary technology interprets ARIB STD-B24 caption data — previously unused in streaming — and renders it as on-screen captions. Enrich your video and take your streams to the next level.

Resilient to unstable streams

Even if the stream stops for any reason, captions are re-synchronized with the video and displayed correctly once the stream resumes. There is no risk of captions alone failing to appear.

Caption suppression via ad markers

Even if caption data happens to overlap with a commercial break, captions are hidden as soon as an ad marker is detected. There is no risk of live-stream captions appearing during commercials.

Support for multiple streaming formats

Captions can be displayed over both HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) and MPEG Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (MPEG-DASH). HLS is also supported for low-latency streaming.

Caption text

No caption metadata left behind

Beyond the caption text itself, additional ARIB STD-B24 caption data is read and woven into the captions, faithfully reproducing caption data authored to avoid covering people or burned-in text on screen. Optionally, you can also display the caption text alone.

Text color

Caption colors and caption background colors are reproduced. Even when different colors are assigned per speaker, each caption is displayed in its own color.

Text size

Both half-width and full-width characters are reproduced. Captions with mixed text sizes are displayed at their respective sizes.

Positioning

Captions are placed per cue. Even captions positioned far apart on screen are each displayed in their intended position.

Ruby annotations

Ruby readings are inferred from the caption text and displayed alongside the annotated characters.

ARIB/DRCS gaiji conversion

Caption display with full special-character support

Every character contained in ARIB STD-B24 caption data can be displayed in your captions exactly as intended.
Register substitute characters in the gaiji template to render non-standard characters (gaiji). Unregistered gaiji are detected automatically during live streams, so you can register substitute characters and build up your gaiji template over time. Once registered, a substitute character can be reused as many times as needed.
